"All of the motor industry is crying out for good-quality engineers"
To those who want a job, train as an Engineer (a real Engineer, not a grease monkey) and you can command your own career structure and pay!!

curious why engineering doesn't pay very well0 -
Hang on, I don't get it.
Good quality engineers are opting to work in finance instead?
It's like saying good quality plumbers are opting to become nurses instead and the hospitals are snapping them up.
????"All of the motor industry is crying out for good-quality engineers," he says. "But many of them are only too happy to come to Canary Wharf and get into finance instead.0 -
Because it is easily outsourced.
I'm not sure about his
It's always been the case that graduate pay in general management, accountancy, IT etc was better paid that engineering
I was looking at Roll Royces (engines) graduate recruitment.. they pay more for a graduate in their general management stream that for a gradute in the engineering area0 -
Quality Engineers have proved that they have an analytical mind, they are highly prized in Finance.
Finance jobs offer big bonuses and very high pay.
In the company I consult for are giving Grad. Engineers £2500 to start .... and paying the person who recommended them £1000!!
The pay isn't great at around £42,000 to start .... and this is where the Banks win.Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0 -
Just how many areas do you work in MrRee?
Seems your company is always diversified into the industry you happen to post about.0 -
I believe there is a lot of misconception in this country as to what a 'degree qualified' Engineer actually does.
A lot of trades have hijacked the word 'Engineer', especially technicians and mechanics. Someone who comes into your office to fix the broken printer is not really an engineer!
This has gradually erroded how proper engineers are perceived in the minds of most people, and perhaps devalued the career some what.
I had a brief look at the employment market again the last month, and I agree, there are still plenty of engineering job opportunities right across the country. Many companies are still crying out for good quality engineers, and will pay decent salaries with the right experience of course.
Here is the Wikipedia entry for 'Engineer'....
An engineer is a professional practitioner of engineering, concerned with applying scientific knowledge, mathematics and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical problems. Engineers design materials, structures and systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, safety and cost. The word engineer is derived from the Latin roots ingeniare ("to contrive, devise") and ingenium ("cleverness").
Engineers are grounded in applied sciences, and their work in research and development is distinct from the basic research focus of scientists. The work of engineers forms the link between scientific discoveries and their subsequent applications to human needs.0 -

????
As part of an engineering degree course there are a number of modules that arent engineering but are taught due to their usefulness for engineers in the future. This typically includes pure maths modules, sometimes a business / project management module, often a module in economics / finance and sometimes a module in basic law (intellectual property etc). This gives them a great grounding in many different areas of employment, some of which pay a lot more than engineering.0 -

I think we all know that MrRee works in exactly zero areas. Who'd employ a complete liar?0 -

EH?
Where have I stated that I work in anything BUT the Engineering Sector? Please, pray, tell me where your mind thinks I work - I'm always up for a laugh.
You do know, or maybe you don't, Engineering appears in most areas of Industry .......Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0
