Car will not move at night.
Just bought myself a used automatic car. I have a problem with it. It will not move at night. No matter how much i press the accelerator it will not move. Yes the handbrake is off. In the daytime it works perfectly.
I think the gearbox is faulty. I will explain.....
In the daytime i get in the car, start it up and select D for daytime mode, handbrake off and move off.
At night i do the same as above but put the gear into N for night mode but the car will not move.
One day a boy racer challenged me at traffic lights so i put the gear into R for race mode. The car went backwards and crashed into the car behind me.
Am i right in assuming the gearbox is faulty?
Yes the above is a joke but i have come across some people who drive an auto without knowing how to drive it or without reading the manual. Few never knew about kickdown.

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

Jump in, stick in R, get out of drive, stick in D, in snow, move gearbox over into +/- mode and change gear accordingly.
Simples!
Also, how can someone not know about kickdown? I use it when going up/down the road I live in, at traffic lights, when pulling out in front of buses etc. but not really at any other time

And there I was thinking in the first couple of sentences that the lights must be shorting something electrical in the gearbox....cowboy electrics.
This is not good for me in the morning.0 -
One of my daughter's friends actually believed that an automatic car does everything for you and you just sit there :rotfl:14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

Taking this seriously... I guess there are some people who buy small automatics because they don't want to think about changing gear while pottering about town. They consider a car to be an appliance for getting from A to B, don't care how it works and probably don't drive if it's snowy. They never need to use kickdown.
Whereas people who drive larger automatics on a lot of motorway runs will use it e.g. when overtaking and thus know when it can be useful in other cases.
Don't you have a sporty Lexus, CK? Therefore you're not in that first group. Also, how can someone not know about kickdown?I need to think of something new here...0 -
I have spotted a fatal flaw in this advice, what happens if you have reversed onto the drive ?CKhalvashi wrote: »Jump in, stick in R, get out of drive, stick in D, in snow, move gearbox over into +/- mode and change gear accordingly.

On par with the young lad buying a mini, Asking if its an Urban model or a Steady 70.
Seller walked away and buyer assumed it must be a constant 56.
Thought it rather dangerous driving everywhere at 56mph but tried his best.
Fuel consumption did not match with the constant 56 information in the handbook though.
Where did i read that one?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
