A slightly strange line from the building society that recently bought Egg. But it plays well with the Daily Palaeograph and the readers.

"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis

It is not surprising that some misdirecting spin in put up in defence of YBS in the wake of the secretive Local Account shambles. This time the spin is in the form of a survey where a self selecting group gush about how good passbooks are when compared to the crappy rate of online YBS savings products.
I would not be surprised if there was some award from an unheard of publication voting them number one passbook savings account issuer 2012.
The prize would be called the Golden Quill.

Well if you are happy with 2.25% you're not very interested in maximising your cash savings. YBS must be very happy with their customer base!0
