Renew Car Insurance whilst claim is ongoing??

Hi
I am currently in the process of making a car insurance claim with Allianz, they sent an independent assessor round last week and assesor advised its an insurance write off. Car is 07 plate Peugeout 207. I have been advised of an estimated settlement value of £4k (less excess)
The car has sat on my driveway for the past week and a bit , i am considering the option of buying it back as salvage and seeing if i can get it patched up cheaper by some local mechanics.
or, if this is still uneconomical the insurance co will pay the full £4k and take it away.
However my annual policy expires on 21st June, do i need to renew the policy whilst the claim/settlement is ongoing? or as i made the claim before the expiry date it doesnt matter?
obviously dont want to pay an annual premium to keep a car for a few weeks and then the car is gone!
any advice?

Up to you whether you renew or not. If you look to obtain Insurance elsewhere, you will have to tell companies you have an open claim. So this really removes the option of getting quotes online.
Suggest you speak to a local broker or phone companies, so you can provide all the details. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

No need to renew. Your claim is wholly covered by the policy that was in force on the date of the incident (ie your current, expiring one).
(You will need to SORN the car once the insurance expires)0
