Very similar to my little one krisskross. She got 2 yr old funding as being around others a similar age seems to bring her out of herself. It seems to be doing the trick, alongside advice from our speech therapist ie, doing jigsaws, running commentary when we go out, giving her options to encourage her to have to talk x
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

If speech delay is the only concern that I'd be highly suprised if you get DLA at age 4 but that is their call I guess. As I say over 40% of children in my nursery see a SALT and 10% need to attend a specialist communication school in the final term.

They have SEVERE communication problems (not just Speech) - and Yes those children do need to apply as need extra care (there are underlying problems that are not yet diagnosed due to age). Those children have severe reactions, need consistent routines etc etc.

If you then add children who have problems with fine motor skills, other communnications etc who are behind milestones and need intervention in that SINGLE area then I think most children will be on DLA.

BTW I am not saying this to be judgemental - you have been advised to apply and if you get it all good, I just don't want you to get your hopes up if you have not identified any other milestone delays or behaviour problems.

DS's renewal back in September took 14 weeks, but I spoke to a lady at our support group last night who has just received her son's first award and it took 7 weeks.

Did you outline his care needs on the form, how he is different from the average 4 year old?

You can usually work out the rate by how much money had gone in x

We have just sent the form off for my son to claim dla as he suffers from speech delay problems.
I have a sneeky feeling we may not have put enough information down, We've tried to be as honest as possible but most of the question seem to repeat themselves.

Does anyone know roughly how long they take to reply back, and if we are unsuccessful where can we go to get advice regarding putting an appeal in?

    Thanks

    Hi
It took dla 13 weeks to award us. My son is 3 1/2 and also delayed in speech. Last assessment he had in March showed that he was 15 months old speech,15 months old communication,15 months old understanding, behind self care and also is delayed everything alse except his physical health. He had speech therapy sessions since he was almost 2 years old. He has been in nursery since he turned 2 years old. I think you need to gather all the information you need and send it to them even though you sent your form, Also make sure your health visitor knows you have applied for dla as they have sent a whole form for her to fill it out. We see our health visitor regularly so she know my son well. Hope it goes well for you.
