hi - i'm a reasonably experienced investor and i'm interested in learning more about spreadbetting - mainly as I want the ability to have a short position on some stock.
are there any recomendations my fellow MSE investors might have towards a certain company or other?
curious to know - ease of use of systems? ability to see data? stop-loss settings (ease off - trailling positions?)
thanks in advance

Second recommendation for IG. Their systems (including the latest version of mobile app) are easy to use and cover pretty much everything you'd want. Lots of data, graphs of prices with settings from tick-by-tick to seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and a bunch of others between, plus overlaid moving averages, trend lines, etc etc. You can partially close positions to lock in a bit of profit or loss, use guaranteed stops to fix a known deposit/margin level and protect against out-of-hours events.
Having said that, they don't do trailing stops, just 'normal/guaranteed' stops and limits. As I've mentioned on another thread about regular sharetrading, not many UK platforms have trailing stops - so I don't miss this too much, and the mobile app means you can get to your positions to edit them if you like.
I have only used two other SB firms, several years ago. One I forget the name of, which I signed up to for a free bet promotion and didn't really go back to. The other was City Index, which I joined shortly after IG Group floated, as I wanted to add to my real shares in the company with spreadbets and IG wouldn't accept bets on their own shareprice!
I no longer hold shares in IG having done quite well out of them, but still use the service. Whereas for years my monthly City statements through the post have shown my unchanged balance at 50p... Should probably tell them they can save some trees.0 -
IG are excellent - however unlike every other investor on the planet, I lost money overall, and not a small amount. I say stick to other investment vehicles.0

PM me and I'll discuss it with you and figure out which one is best.
I dont use IG but I do own the shares, they pay nice. I have about 6 other accounts with various firms. You should always start very small is best advice0 -
another satisfied ig index user here
a child could use the platform0 -
