Egg Credit card PPI reclaim

Hi all,
I'm new to the forums but have been using moneysavingexpert for some time now and have been successful in reclaiming bank charges and also PPI from a few different organisations so for that THANK YOU :T!
My question today is that I had an egg credit card a few years ago, I have sent them the template letter requesting the information from my account and also included the cheque for £10 to cove the costs, however the return letter from egg said that as the account is now over 6 years old then they are under no obligation to honor the data protection act. How can I get the information required from egg for me to start the process?
Thanks in advance!

Was it from advice on here that you got in touch with the ombudsman?
I've heard of something called a SAR letter, I found a template letter on here but can't remember where I got it from. Just not sure if that is the right approach or like you go to the ombudsman0 -
The bank has to hold your information for up to six years from the point of the final payment you have made to them. If you have not made a payment to the bank in the last six years you may not be able to get the information from the lender as they do not have to legally hold the records for this period of time.0
