Incorrect details on a P60

My other half has come home with his P60 today but it has his old address on it. Is this down to the tax office or should we be going to his employer about this?

We're a bit surprised since we have had regular contact with HMRC since last October due to filing Self Assessments (no longer required since he is now employed and HMRC have acknowledged this)

Now we are wondering if any other paperwork will have gone to his old address (he moved house and employer back in July 2011). If this is a case of us needing to contact HMRC, which section should we be getting onto please?
I'm not sure whether we should be concerned that it has an incorrect address on it. His tax code has been the standard 747L all year so I would hope he does not owe any funds.

Many Thanks

The P60 is issued by your OH's employer.

notify them of any change of address.

If you are getting correspondence from HMRC and its going to current address, there's no need to speak to them.

You can notify them of a change of address online if you prefer.

Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

It may be that your employer's systems of recording information about employees may not be completely joined up with their payroll systems, which happens very easily if the payroll is outsourced.

Last year I think I asked everyone to check the address I held for them in April, so that I could make sure payroll knew about any changes. This year I forgot, and we've had at least one minor correction. Two years ago there were several with the old address, which was simply that we hadn't told Payroll about changes we knew about.

For tax purposes, it shouldn't matter. If you need to prove your identity / current address, it might be a PITA.

P60 won't be accepted as proof of address anyways so it shouldn't matter too much.

Not on its own, but in combination with other documents it can be used in this way, I believe, at least for CRB purposes. Unless they've changed it with the new systems just set up? Which I admit I'm not fully engaged with yet.

I don't know about CRB but it won't be accepted as proof of identity or address by a bank. Presumably because it isn't actually posted to the address shown but usually handed over in person.

I tell my employer the address, they accept my word, they print it on P60 which isn't posted but handed over. I can't see how it's proof of anything beyond your earnings.

That said, I would ensure your employer updates your records. For example they would likely post a P45 to that address if you left. So while I think it's not a huge deal, I wouldn't ignore it either.

Thanks for the responses so far. My main concern is whether the paye section will have updated the address when we got self assessment to alter it. Do the two divisions talk? Will paye have sent any correspondence to the old address?

Knowing how pants hmrc can be I think we may phone them tonight just to make sure we haven't missed anything.
