Insurance fee?

Hello,

I'll try to keep a long story short...

A neighbour scraped my car admitted liability and was prepared to pay without going through insurance I got a quote which was £330 so she thought it best to go through her insurance as it was more expensive than she originally thought after a few weeks of dragging her heals I've contacted my insurance to put it in their hands. My insurance company gave me the option of instructing a local garage to complete the work on my car as I was unfamiliar with this garage I said I would prefer to use the local dealership where I had got my original quote from as they are a known and trusted name in the region. At this the advisor told me I would have to pay my excess (£400) and also a fee of £200 as I would not be using one of their garages both fees I would be able to claim back from my neighbours insurance although they could not assist me with this other than pointing me in the right direction as to how to make the claim. The excess I accept I will have to pay out to recllaim later although this £200 fee puzzles me.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Thanks,

I would ask to see the terms and conditions where it says about the £200 fee, cheeky sods.

It would have been easier, since they admitted laibility, to have dealt directly with the third party, you would have had no excess to pay, no £200, no nothing. Of course I really am not sure that this £200 will be refundable because of course, you are not mitigating your losses. I would go with the insurance appointed garage if you still can.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

It's an increased excess if you don't use one of their approved garages

You will have no problems over reclaiming all these excesses (assuming there is no dispute over liability).

You are entitled to have your car repaired at your choice of garage. (Irrespective of whether this incurs an extra excess due to your policy conditions).

And of course, if you have paid excesses, then the bill from the garage to the insurer is consequently lower! (And the third party has to pay this too - not just your uninsured losses)

OP, why not claim directly from the third-party's insurer.

Your are paying a £600 excess on a £330 repair?
