Should they inform me?

I am fairly new to Ebay - sold 10 items so far. Everyone has paid using PayPal so far, which is my preference, but today I sold two more items, but haven't been sent payment. If they are going to pay by cheque or PO (which I will accept) should they inform me or do I just wait? By the way what is the time limit for waiting for payment? I am guessing that I should wait for cheques to clear before sending goods.

Why don't you contact them via email, politely, and ask them??
I always state that payment is required within 5 days or item will be relisted and negative feedback left.
Definately wait for cheques to clear prior to sending any items.

Most of the time I don't receive any contact from the buyers if they are paying by cheque, I just get a cheque in the post about 8-10 days or so after the auction end.

There is no need for them to contact you.

McWarre, 5 days isn't enough time to get a cheque if you live where I live, 1st class post routinely takes 3-4 working days and that assumes the buyer posts straight away. Anyway, you can't even start the NPB process until a full 7 days have elapsed.

Thanks for your help. One of the buyers has an excellent record of 100% pos feedback, but it looks like its all with PayPal, so I was a bit surprised that I hadn't received anything yet. Maybe they are away or something - anyway I'll wait a few days before contacting them.

Perhaps in future advise a time limit when a cheque is sent! otherwise people are a bit relaxed and may eventually forget! they have with me before! if you haven't recieved anything in a few days send them a polite email as remember it is the easter period and we have had a few bank holidays!

I got one payment through PayPal now, so just waiting on the second one. I checked through his feedback and discovered that he does pay through PayPal, so maybe it'll be soon.

I think buyers should inform you however they are going to pay.IMO its good manners to tell people what to expect and when to expect it! My hubby is too soft with people on e-bay.....we are currently awaiting payment on some items sold in Feb!How long does it take for a buyer to mail you and say ''I will be sending a cheque/PO order please allow time for it to arrive''?Even if like Soo says and the cheque doesn't arrive for a few days at least you know its on its way.
