Just did a job last night where a Windows Update had knocked out MSE whereby it could no longer being installed - You go to install MSE either as a download (setup exe) or as a RUN action only to be greeted with an error message at the end of the install process stating error 8004ff83.
Solution - run the installation as normal but make sure your broadband internet connection is off (i.e. switch off your wireless connection). For some reason the internet connection seems to plague the install process.

I had the same proplem with MSE.
Solved it by going to a restore point prior to download no problem since.0
