Vanquis - confused, why does my balance say zero?

Options
Hi all,

I have a Vanquis credit card (I know, I know – I’ve seen sense now and am concentrating on paying it off), just checked my account and this is what it says:

Balance carried forward - £927.87
Credits to your account - £50.00
Debits to your account - £118.99
Current balance - £0.00

Why does it say my balance is zero? I wish it was, lol! However I know for a fact it’s not! It should be just under £1,000? Am I just being daft? Please could anyone shed any light, thank you.

Does that not just simply means that you've got £0 available to spend on card?
It does clearly says that the balance carried forward is £927.87!!!!

Nope, my available to spend is underneath, it’s something daft like under a tenner (not that I’m planning to spend on it from now on – I’m cutting it up and paying it off!). So the balance should be 900 and something. Obviously I know it’s NOT zero (unless some nice anonymous person has paid my card off for me – carry on dreaming, ha ha), just wondering why it says that really, or whether there’s something I’m not understanding. That’s all.

Presumably an error. I'm sure it will be corrected. :)

Or, perhaps, their system isn't used to people having a balance nudging £1,000. Ouch!

You should stop spending on the account because, as you owe Vanquis money, you now pay interest on all purchases from the day you make them.

Thank you for your help. Oh I’m definitely not – in fact I’m going to cut it to take away the temptation! I have just finished paying off another debt so that leaves me with some more spare money each month, I should have an extra £200 this month so I’m going to just throw that at the Vanquis card. I want to book my wedding but want to clear my debts first!

Thanks for that point re: purchases. Forgive me for being dim, does that mean potentially the minimum payment would go up each month then? (Not that matters, as the plan is to pay more than the minimum each month anyway).

Have you spent anything on the card since your last statement?
If not then the reason it says £0.00 could be because it is refering to this months current balance (or spending).
Other than that I haven't got a clue!

I noticed similar before, specifically after making a payment, or doing something else on the site. I think its a bug. Try logging out and then logging back in and I think you'll find its where it should be.

The balance shouldn't increase if there hasn't been any additional spending on the account.

Thing about interest is that if you don't pay your balance in full you pay interest on purchases from when they're made and don't get to take advantage of up to 56 days free interest.

So, if you pop in to Tesco today and spend £20 on food you'll pay interest on that purchase from today. However, someone who pays their CC balance in full each month would get that purchase interest free. It's just one of the ways CC companies squeeze money out of customers.
