parent added to sons insurance

just a quick question i thought if a parent with long no claims was added to a young drivers ins this would bring the cost down, but it seems not as my son tried to added me to his ins policy and it went up by a thousand pound and also most companies have stopped asking how many years no claims an added parent has.:o

If you are meaning companies have stopped asking about named drivers "no claims" as in "no claims discount", then no insurer asks about that.

However, all insurers want to know about named drivers claims history, irrespective of whether or not they are related to the policy holder.

Moped insurance for my daughter was a bit cheaper with me as a named rider (I have a full moped licence from when they used to give them automatically when you passed a car driving test).

As you found out, Its not always cheaper.

I havce a claim free record for many years, Clean licence etc.

If i add my mum or my sister who have had claims my insurance gets cheaper. If i use either of their postcodes its dearer. So its not down to that.

Adding a female with no claims would maybe help. Dont know if the parent that was added was the father or the mother. Even a sister the same age can help lower it sometimes (it does with my twin brother)

Are you adding the parent as a named driver or putting them down as the main driver and the son as a named driver?

My son was doing quotes and it worked out a lot cheaper if he only had his dad on the policy rather than both of us. We are normally on the policy as occasional drivers in case we ever needed to pick the car up. Husband and I have had clean licences for over 25 years.
