Indicator on Citroen Picasso

Hi,

I have a 2003 Citroen Xsara Picasso that has for a few months now been playing up. The left stalk on the steering wheel (indicators and lights) is clearly faulty. When indicating it just turns itself off (dangerous:eek:) and the lights turn themselves on also. I have spoken to a Citroen dealer and they said that the 2003 models onwards need the whole COMM unit replacing, rather than just the left hand stalk. They have quoted £193.15 plus VAT! Obviously, I want to get this down as far as I can.

Does anyone have any advice on the best way to go with this, please? Ebay?

Thanks in advance.

Duncan

    yes to your dealer
these have a brain in them so your dealer will need to make it communicate with the bigger brain under the bonnet by means of witchcraft Ouija boards and modern day electrical gizzimoes

Both the indicator and wiper stalks are integral parts of the COMMs unit - it is the box behind the steering wheel holding both stalks - so unfortunately you have to replace the whole unit and unfortunately they are not cheap.

Don't buy a used one from Ebay unless you know it comes from a fairly new Citroen/Peugeot and that it definitely works. They all wear out unfortunately so you may get another dud one. Also, you need to get the exact part number as there are over a dozen different COMMs versions for all Peugeot/Citroen/Dongfeng models.

Also try GSF, apparently they sometimes stock the COMMs units - you have to ring them, they don't list them in their web catalogue.

To replace the COMMs unit you need to remove the airbag and then the steering wheel.

  • I had the same problem and had to have the stalk changed as the light came on all the time and when they were on the indicators then didnt work so I had to drive with my lights on all of the time. It is an expensive repair and cost me similar to what you paid.

I don't think the COMMs unit needs any Lexia coding, unless you need to calibrate the ESP steering wheel angle. COMMs is just a very poorly made and fragile box with a dozen switches in there, no electronic circuitry.
