Buying freehold at same time as buying house

Hi all,
We're buying a leasehold house (mid-terrace) and have been doing some reading about the freehold.
Am I right in thinking that if we buy it as is, we have to be in the property for 2 years before we're 'eligible' for buying the freehold?
We're buying for £160k and have asked the solicitor to find out how much the freehold would be...anyone have any ideas whilst I'm waiting?! Is it straightforward to tie in the purchase of the freehold with a leasehold property purchase?
Thanks in advance

There is no time limit on a house ( as long as it is vertically divided and cannot be considered a flat) if you can get the vendor to exercise the right and assign it to you to, and do check that the house is not exempt.

Otherwise it is a right you have to exercise so you buy the leasehold first and then acquire the freehold.
But ensure that you get advice on the cost of both before proceeding,Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.
Actively hunting down the person who invented the imaginary tenure, "share freehold"; if you can show me one I will produce my daughter's unicorn0
