Cancelled direct debit cpp

Good afternoon,
I received a renewal letter from cpp and decided to call them. It wasn't within the 14 days stated, but there has been a problem with my post.

Anyways, I called them to cancel, and the lady on the phone said that was fine. I then proceeded to cancel the direct debit via my bank.

Then today I notice that cpp have refunded me the premium. I rang them to explain that they never took it and that I am not owed this money. They said as far as they could see they received the money on the 2nd.

I rang my bank to discuss this with them. They say that the direct debit was requested on the 2nd, due to clear on the 8th. And I cancelled on the 6th, so the money wasnt taken. They're adamant it was and say that I am due this refund. My bank say not to spend it because it's likely cpp will notice.

I just don't no what to do now, I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall, so I just wondered if anyone had any advice.

Thanks

Put it in a savings account and wait for CPP to ask for it back.
If after 6 years they don't, the money is yours.

Ok thank u. Do u think I'll get any fines or anything? I've had my statement from my bank and there's no unpaid direct debit fees showing

Personally, I'd leave the money in my current account for a bit longer before moving it out. Just because you spoke to someone at the bank, it doesn't mean they know what they are talking about.

If, after a month from the due date its still not showing, then move it into a savings account for 6 years, or until they ask for it.

Thanks you for the advice. I'm going to leave it in my account for 10 days or so. Then move it to my savings if they still haven't requested it
