I have had the same problem with Post Office/Bank of Ireland. Long correspondence subject access request etc. They say "exact particulars of the search are kept confidential even to Bank of Ireland employees this is to maintain the integrity of the system". I was referred to the Information Commissioner who declares on his complaint form that he has no powers to punish an organisation for any likely breach of the act and cannot award compensation. What a waste of time.

Why would you want to complain to the information commissioner about a company not sharing your data with other companies?

Firms can get your consent to use your credit data to help confirm your ID. They don't see your credit data, unless they themselves are data sharers. What they usually see is an ID score based on the data available on your credit report. Ours looks at amount of data, consistency and quality. So a mortgage provides more confidence than a mail order account for instance. The firm decides where to set the pass mark and, usually, if the electronic check fails they will revert to traditional paper-based proofs of ID instead.
