Alas, no news yet today. Emailed Jamie first thing regarding the cheque but no response from Hastings at all. :mad::mad:0

Still no news. Was told on phone originally that they'd listen to the original telephone call and ring back within 48 hours. No contact as yet, other than a cheque for £15. Today was the day we were supposed to pay the £96.11 cancellation fee, but as that's being debated still am uncertain what to do.0

Contact them and remind them the cancellation fee is in dispute and ask them not to take it till the matter is resolved (tell them about Jamie's intervention here too!).
Then if they still take the money you can get it back via the dd guarantee direct from your bank.0 -
Updated, in that a nice man in customer services has sorted the Fiat insurance and charges, but still chasing for an update on the Astra, and word of what the £15 cheque was for.0

Update: Hastings have posted (and emailed) their final response, and we're exceptionally pleased with the way they've handled everything. Big thanks to Joe and Jamie for sorting what was a confusing muddle. Very glad we came for advice on here, else we'd have been severely out of pocket!0
