Heathrow T5 check in etc

Hi MSE Guys,

I'm sure one of you frequent travellers can advise me.

I am travelling on BA from T5, on a weekday, next week. Flight leaves at 09.20. BA website says you must pass through Security 35 mins before flight time (i.e. 08.45) . I will check-in on-line. Can't find any other advice.

What time will I need to get to Heathrow at, to check bags in etc. and get through Security by 08.45? An hour before?

Thanks

As you say you can turn up an hour before but to be honest i tend to make it at least an hour and a half, it simple comes down to the hassle involved if you miss the flight. Sit down relax and have a coffee once you are through, save the stress of worrying about being late.

I'm another believer in getting to airports, especially Heathrow, as soon as possible. Much better to be relaxing in the bar with a beer/coffee than getting stressed about delays in getting there.

I've been through T5 at least twice a month, every month this year. Check-In/Baggage Drop is no hassle, plenty of desks available to assist you, so should have hardly any wait time there. Security should take no more than 20 mins to pass through, that time of the morning it is likely to be mostly biz travellers with minimum luggage to go through security. Then it depends which gate your flight leaves from if it is from a B or C gate then you will need to take a rail transfer to T5 - B or C terminal.

Also factor in getting from the car park to the terminal if necessary.

As you have suggested an hour should be ample it just depends how stressed you get if things dont quite go your way and you could end up having to rush to the gate.
