i recently took my old 53 plate mondeo to local garage with a squeaky suspension.
Got a phone call saying they had stripped down suspension and only thing they could find was a worn shock absorber £112 and they were 99% certain that would solve the SQUEAK.
Lo and behold squeak was not fixed so i took car back and was told there was hundreds of bushes and things that could be causing the squeak.
i asked for refund but was declined as i had a new shock absorber which i didnt need.
as i paid on my barclaycard can i claim back under section 75?

Section 75 covers 'misrepresentation' and 'breach of contract'.
Would you say either applied here?0 -
i was told that for £112 they were 99% certain squeak would be fixed, so i paid and then i was told lots of things it could be.
Surely that is a misrepresentation as if they had said theres lots of things it could be do you want to have a £112 gamble on a shock absorber i would have said NO0 -
The 1% uncertainty would be their, and the card company's, 'get-out' I would have thought?
There's another issue that would worry me though...I thought such items should always be changed as a pair? Maybe that's a question for the motoring forum.
At the end of the day though, changing the "hundreds of bushes and things that could be causing the squeak" would have cost a lot more in labour charges!
I expect a section 75 claim would fail. After all, there's a certain amount of process of elimination work required with problems such as these isn't there?0 -
just wanted to explore possibility figured nothing to loose by asking question0

Mechanics isn't an exact science unfortunately. Sometimes they will get it wrong. Personally I don't think you are entitled to a refund.0

you took car to garage because of squeek
garage checked over car for you and the best guess they could come up with was a shocker squeek on rebound which is more than you could find
they quoted you a price but said it might just not be that what do you want us to do?
because you have no money you agreed the work but put it on your credit card
since job done car still squeeks so you want to deny the garage the cost of all their overheads labour charges and indeed the cost of shocker to themselves
i suggest you go back to the garage and put all this to them in person
they might have their own grease but can i suggest you take a tin of vaseline with you just in case0 -

Did they only replace one shock absorber?
Unless you recently had new shocks fitted anyway, I would suggest you go back and get the other side replaced.
With one worn, weak shock on one side (as it will be after almost a decade) and a nice strong new one on the other, the care will not handle correctly and will cause more rapid, uneven tyre wear as a result0 -
