Warning - Equifax dodgy dealing

Options
Hi All,

I've had a really bad experience from Equifax, and I'd like to warn you about them.

I signed up to get credit reports for a short while, at £6.99 a month, then decided I didn't need them, so phoned to cancel.

I called them (0844 charged number of course), on 31st May at 16.33 (the benefits of call logging). They promised no further money would be taken, and that the account would be closed.

Yesterday (11 June) I finally get an email confirming the cancellation, guess what, the 11th of the month is the monthly renew date, so they took the £6.99 and then cancelled the account.

Theis is hugely cynical, and they knew exactly what they are doing. I tried to call them, but after 10 minutes at my expense on the call queue, I gave up and have written them a letter.

I hate Equifax now, this is blatant theft, and their complaints proceedure is all via snail mail, so I imagine notihing will be sorted for many months, and they will just try to wear me down until I give up.

Are they charging a month in arrears or a month up front? If arrears, the bill is for up the the cancellation and is correct. If up-front, then the one department is not passing the information that you have cancelled to the other departments.
  • It's paid up front for each month. I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but they know exactly what they are doing.

12 days to cancel a recurring credit card payment, not likely, especially as they said it would be cancelled that day.

They're just relying on me not chasing them for the £6.99

Disgusting, and I'm pleased that MSE forums have allowed me to tell people (currently 52) what they are up too.

    thanks - will avoid these.
  • I wish id have read this earlier, Seen the 'free credit report thingy everywhere' and was mistaken into thinking that if i signed up i would recieve a 'free hasstle free credit report' however after giving them all my details etc, i was told i needed to call them on an 0844 number, how convineint. Its funny how they need all my mortgage details, copy of statements, blood sample etc blagh blagh blagh in order to even speak to me over the phone, however they have no issues in taking money from my account. This is the last time i EVER give my banking details to anyone over the net. Money out the bank, expensive phone calls to try and cancel just to get cut off TWICE after 5 minuites of security questions!!! 2 days of losing my mind for absoloutly nothing! it makes me sick, they know what theyre doing and continue to get away with it. What happened to good old fashioned customer service, and looking after your clients best interests? it feels like everyone is out to try and scam you these days.:mad::mad:
