Trojan Horse ....help please

My Pc running windows XP service pack 2 has a virus, Trojan horse called Rootkit.L checked the web and AVG virus checked was recommended to remove it while the PC was in safe mode.
Did all this and the software found the virus and deleted it, but as soon as I re booted its back made sure when I rebooted the network cable was out so it didnt get infected again its still on the PC.

Any help please......also have and run Ad-Aware, SpyBot, Avira AntiVirus Personal Edition.....Thanks for any help
