What is the best area to stay in London to do what I want to do...

Right I want to book something and I want to do it ASAP (I like to be organised). Shall I go with the Travelodge at the Tower for £120 for the 2 nights or shall I go with the Copthorne Tara over in Kensington for £175 for the 2 nights (through Travelzoo). Cheap or a bit of luxury? Museum or Tower side? I hate having choices!0

Remember with Travelodge no meals are included (not even breakfast). This makes £120 very expensive for a very basic hotel.
Also there attractions near Kensington.0 -

There's a Wetherspoons almost immediately opposite the Tower Travelodge and a Tesco express just round the corner - and it is very handy for the Tower at night (given that the OP now has tickets for the Ceremony of the Keys), and for getting the river boats.
But I suspect the Copthorne Tara is probably the better option for making the most of the arrival and departure days because it is closer both to Paddington and the museums.0 -
I have just gone with the Copthorne Tara as I think it'll make the most of our days and checkout is a bit later on the Friday. We get a breakfast but it'll probably be of the continental kind but we'll make the most of it! Thanks peeps for all your help, I might be back needing some more help nearer the time but you've all been amazing so far! Fingers crossed everything goes well!0

I have friends who stay in hotels on a regular basis through work. And the general advice that they give is not to stay in inner city Travelodges. The ones in more rural areas are in a better state of repair. So they usually stick to Premier Inn or Holiday Inn.0
