Having read all views on here, I believe toomuchdebt has posted a thread looking for some hints and tips on feeding her children, meal planning and saving money. I do think the sensible approach to dieting is healthy eating and portion control (there are threads on here that can give you hints and tips). And whilst I believe everybody is entitled to their own opinion. There is no need to bully toomuchdebt over her choice to go on the Cambridge Diet. Name calling and abuse is not necessary.

Shame on you Shegirl you're the one who is pathetic!

Look at it this way TMD- you are providing more than enough needs for the kids and have taken initiative to stimulate your mind and grow some culinary skills.
    Good on you

Really mean, nasty judgemental posts on this thread. I think we have to assume the OP is not daft enough to starve her children, but was just asking for a few hints on a short term cash problem. Don't be put off OP, and good luck with the weight loss, you sound really determined :-)

    Right I'm back:

You could make quiche with pastry, eggs, bacon and cheese to have with salad.

You could make noodles with the chicken peices, mushrooms, shredded carrot, celery and obv noodles.

You could make the mince into HM burgers or cottage pie?

Do you have tinned tomatoes? If so you could make a sausage pasta/pasta bake with sausages, herbs, spices etc.

I would recommend you sit down and work out what needs using first so nothing goes to waste.

Also I know you say the kids eat masses - it's your job to make sure they don't over-eat and whilst I understand it's difficult 3 good meals plus a few healthy snacks is enough! When my brother was a kid he would have eaten all day if my mother had let him but she put her foot down as she couldn't afford to feed him everything he wanted.

Good luck and keep at it.

You can make various soups - cheap and very filling when served with bread

Mmm, I second soup, cheap and tasty too ~ I should think you could probably start to implement it into your diet if you had it without bread.

Anyhoo, the secret with soup is to make a base, or use veggie/chicken stock cubes, then add whatever your souping. Really any veg and/or meat is fine, add pasta or rice, and use herbs and spices for different flavours. Also really good for reduced veg which is past it's best or you've found knocking about in the back of the fridge, no longer resembling anything recognisable!
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

TMD, are you anywhere near a farm shop? Asking because it's very much cheaper to buy potatoes by the 25Kg sack; I pay around £5 for one, which we go through in about 4 weeks. I'm feeding 7-ish at the moment, mostly late teens/early twenties, and those spuds really help me keep to my budgetary targets! At this time of year I usually share a sack with the household next door (who are mostly vegetarians, so also go through them quickly although there are only 4 of them) as they sprout fairly quickly.
