Re: Unemployment and car insurance

Hi,
I was "pensioned off" my job due to ill health nearly 20 years ago.
I get a monthly occupational pension but I am also entitled to benefits.
Can I legally put "retired" on an application for car insurance without commiting fraud??
Any Advice?
Thanks.:undecided

Is the benefit JSA? I can't see how you could put retired and then claim JSA.
If it's ESA and you don't intend on working again (and the government aren't asking you to work) then retired is accurate.0 -

Yes, at the moment that is the case. I have a long term mental illness and receive incapacity benefit and DLA. The DWP have said I am at the "bottom of the list" when it comes to the DLA reviews.
I will contine to receive my pension for life. It was their decision that I was not fit for work, not mine.0 -
If you're not receiving JSA and / or are not looking for unemployment then you would generally be regarded as retired by Insurers.
Try getting quotes as being retired, then ring the Insurers you're interested in and explain your situation. Make sure you take a note of the persons full name and the date / time of the call incase there are any queries about it in the future.
If your circumstances change eg you go back into work etc don't forget to update the Insurers0 -
Be ready for them upping your premium.
I told mine last week that I was now retired and the !!!!!!s upped it £40make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks for your replies. I'm down as "unemployed" at the moment but will double check the situation with the insurer as the last thing I want is to have to make a claim and then find I'm not covered!
Another strange thing is that My Mum who is 74 is a named driver on my policy, she only occasionaly drives it but the main reason I added her was that it brought the price down by quite a bit. Got the advice from this site. Cheers Martin!:money:0 -
See what the price is now without your mum, things change on a daily basis with Insurance companies.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Retired under health grounds? Ive seen that on some quote systems.
I was off work for a while and that came out cheaper for some companies. But luckily i got sorted.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
