First, make sure you go off peak
I would either go REALLY early in the morning and come back REALLY late at night (think 5am / 10pm) or alternatively travel when Richard and Judy are on (10.30am ish). Just don't go during the rush hour (6.30am-9.30am and 4.30pm-7pm).
Can you time the journey so that they are having a nap as you travel?0 -
Also, no need to be anxious, the people of the north are lovely and i am sure your fellow passengers will help you out with bags and entertaining the kids if you so wish! :-)
and also remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question. it is very clever of you to be thinking about these things before the journey.0 -
Thank you I was thinking about going really earl. I feel really stupid for worrying so much

TBH I don't think you need to worry at all, my daughter takes her son (age 8) on the trains all the time he absolutely loves them he chats to the conductors and even the drivers sometimes. To date they have all been very friendly.
On Saturday they went from Ashchurch to Cardiff via the scenic route and came back via the Severn tunnel travelling on 5 different trains. They had a grand day out and the train staff were so friendly. At one station the conductor told my grandson to go and tap on the drivers window to say hello! Total cost for the 2 of them £15 (with a family card)
Don't worry you will have a great time on the train.

If theres tables on the train you'll be using, try and reserve the seats around one when booking the journey.0

Lunch times to early afternoons tend to be the quietist from my experience.0
