Homelet Guarantor application with default

Hi,
My younger brother is a medicine student and requires a guarantor for his rent application with Homelet. Our parents don't qualify as they are expats and aren't official residents here anymore.
I'm happy to be a guarantor, however I'm concerned about the credit check they perform. In fact, I'm not even sure they actually credit check the guarantor, although they do apparently check your references for your employer and income. The form states:
"If the tenant, for whom I am proposing to act as Guarantor, defaults in respect of their tenancy covenants in the future
HomeLet may review the results of the verifications and searches set out above"
Does this mean they only review credit check results if the tenant defaults?
The issue is I have an ongoing dispute with the Financial Ombudsman, due to a default placed on my credit record without my knowledge. Due to this, I am concerned if they credit check me and decline his application, and also the very fact a check is involved as I wanted to avoid all forms of this until the issue is resolved one way or another.
I have a good income and am a homeowner, so I hope that fits the criteria.
Does anyone have experience of this, do they definitely credit check the guarantor and would this be a problem for the main applicant?
