re. selling a hotpoint fridge freezer

Later in the year I will be selling my Hotpoint fridge freezer which is under one year old. This is because it will be replaced by an integrated one. It will be out of guarantee by then (just) but there is still a 5 year replacement parts agreement with Hotpoint.
When I sell it, is it possible to transfer that 5 year parts agreement to a new owner or would Hotpoint only supply any required parts to the original purchaser?
It is currently in good working order so I am wondering how much someone might pay for it. It was about £250 new.

Well I'm selling my house with integrated fridge freezer and have just passed the 5yr parts guarantee on to my solicitor for my buyers benefit, as I rightly or wrongly assumed that whoever owns the appliance in the home that it was fitted into, would have rights to the guarantee. I think I would expect a free standing one to be covered in this way too, if the original receipt could be provided.
Not sure a non integrated 2nd hand appliance would have a lot of value. Too much trouble for people to come and collect, especially if they have to pay a man and van or for van hire.
When I was getting my integrated fridge freezer I had a 2 yr old frost free, free standing one, that I ended up putting on freecycle, just to get it out of my kitchen.
Must confess it was lovely to see the face of the guy who came with his mum to collect it, he was over the moon as he'd just got his first flat. They came with a lovely bunch of flowers for me. :jThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Check out your local free ads to see how much similar stuff sells for, we were quite surprised. We sold a 2-3 year old hotpoint w/m and a c5 year old freestanding oven both for £50-£60 on a buyer collects basis.0

Value will depend on what it is, how much it cost when new and the condition when you come to sell it.
If you can prove the 5 year parts warranty is still valid, it will add to the price.0 -
The 5 year parts warranty is worth little in my view. It's more a marketing tool from a company that manufacture products which are designed to fail, so as to sell their overpriced labour and extended warranty products.
This is to target an audience which is still under the impression that the brand Hotpoint / Indesit still represent the good quality products their parents once bought. My farts hospitalize small children

I would advertise at £120 and hope to get £100Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I've been looking to buy a new fridge freezer this week and have to say many of the Hotpoint models have had really bad reviews, enough to totally put me off the brand completely.
If an item is out of it's one year guarantee period, I don't see any advantages to any other warranties etc. purchased by or received by the original owner, that would make me consider it a better deal/worth paying more for.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

I have had a good experience with Hotpoint. One fridge freezer lasted over 12 years and a more recent one lasted 5 years. A washing machine also did 12 years and my current one is over 6 years old with no problems so far.0 -
Well obviously people have good experiences too, but people looking to buy often check out the review sites (and personally I think new white goods aren't always as well made/to last as they were 5 or 10 years ago).
I did refrain from mentioning but... my mum will never buy Hotpoint ever again since the day she had a funny feeling about the tumble drier, and thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye. I told her to just unplug it. When the engineer came round (my mum has extended warranties on everything) he said the whole appliance was live and we had been very lucky not to be electrocuted! :eek:A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
There is a disproportionately high number of complaints on these forums in relation to hot Hotpoint and Indesit appliances (same company).
Readers of the Consumer rights and praise and vent forum will also notice posts such as this:

And Industry Views on the web such as this: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/about-the-appliance-industry/manufacturer-information/2747-hotpoint-domestic-appliances.html (See in particular "Repairing Hotpoint Appliances" towards the bottom).
These don't inspire any confidence in these brands. Hence why in my opinion an extended parts warranty on any Hotpoint / Indesit Appliance is not worth the paper it is written on.My farts hospitalize small children

I have bought a new fridge freezer for my MiL who has a Hotpoint. Company wanted £29 to take the old one away. I advertised it on Gumtree for £10 and six people responded within 24 hours.
I would not pay £50 for a second hand item, even in perfect condition with a guarantee."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
