What are people's experience when using HSBC mortgages? I've just applied for one online and been told they'll be in touch in 48 hours to review.
I think I made a mistake on my outgoings when applying so hopefully they'll be in touch ahead of making credit checks!

If you've applied for one it's likely they have run the credit check already.
If there is something wrong in your outgoings I'd advise you to call them first thing tomorrow before it (potentially) negatively affects your application0 -
HSBC mortgages, hitsorically they are difficult to get and the attached conveyencing can be dreadful.

Indeed; who have you got as a solicitor? See the Countrywide / HSBC thread on the House buying board ...
I'm using my own solicitor who aren't on the panel, I'm going to have to pay the additional £192 but I didn't want to use one of theirs.
I don't mind if it takes a few weeks longer as it will give me a chance to save some more money. Living with parents does have it's benefits!0 -
Personally I;d say avoid with a barge pole, but some lucky ones do get through their nets. As you've already applied I'd keep going, but if you do get rejected I'd highly recommend going to a 'whole of the market' broker and letting them do the legwork as the application is more likely to hit the right lender.
Good luck.0 -
I've just completed a mortgage transfer from the Halifax to HSBC. Very easy transaction. Solicitors appointed by HSBC were Grindeys, took approx 3/4 weeks for whole process. Very pleased.0

Should be noted that a remortgage is different to a purchase.
HSBC are fine, a little slow, a little picky, others have better rates but you could say the same of most people. For a purchase the conveyancing aspect is extremely cumbersome and if you lose the property because of that it could cost you.The J is a Financial Advisor-This site doesn't check anyone's status and as such any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice. I took their life tracker 4 years back, it was a very smooth process. Also contacted them after 2 years to change it to interest only, it took a month to convince them to move to interest only, but eventually got it. Happy with their service and more than happy to pay £73.00/month for the 120K mortage.

I'm just doing exactly this...so far my £192 has meant that CountryWide (HSBC's solicitors) have delayed my move by 6weeks and counting, I'm homeless and have realised why buying a house is so stressful...
Currently I feel incredibly lucky my buyer isn't pulling out of the deal, as we're now 5 months down the line since I put in my offer and got it accepted. I can honestly say I hate HSBC and Countrywide with a passion, and am putting in a complaint with them (on the advice of my solicitor). Wait until August when they drop their stupid CountryWide-run scheme, you can use your own solicitor (as long as they have the correct qualification thing) without paying the £192 and you may even get to move this year!
Other than that - I've got a great mortgage rate and their adviser was nice, and not even that pushy on all the 'extras' of insurance etc.
