Help! Bedworld problems

After a recommendation here we bought a bed (mattress & divan together)from Bedworld, it was finally delivered really late, and unfortunately didn't fit upstairs in our bedroom.
We called and asked if we could keep the mattress and return the divan and replace it with a flat packed bed as I'm six months pregnant and had been sleeping on a sofabed - so even sleeping on the mattress alone was better for my back. They assured us this was fine, so we took the plastic wrapper off the mattress.
This week my husband has been speaking to them to find out how much the divan alone was worth so he could look on the site for a flat pack that was in stock. All fine, until today when they are suddenly saying that they will only take it back as a whole unit, as we've opened the mattress it's used, so we can't return it.
I'm really upset, really !!!!ed off that I'm sleeping on a mattress on the floor when I'm pregnant despite paying £700 for a bed.
Does anyone have any advice?
