1899 are refusing new applications @ 29/03/05

I just applied to 1899 for an account, I already use 18866 but want cheaper mobile calls at all times hence my application to 1899 in the first place.
They are refusing new applications apparently due to lack of capacity, with a polite note to try in SIX WEEKS TIME!
this is the exact text recieved at 5pm on 29/03/05

    Hi,

Please see below, this is an attachment from another thread on MoneySavingExpert.Com

You will read a lot on this board about 18866 and 1899 for cheap calls. However some people have had problems signing up for both 18866 and 1899 and the trick to try is, sign up using your mobile number and once you have registered then add your landline number and hey presto, you should be up and running for very cheap calls.

    Hope it works!

I managed to register with 1899 at 7pm this evening - not trying to sound smug. I registered my home phone, not a mobile.

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to why this problem arises with 1899 and has been going on since September last year. Some people get signed up straight away whereas others have to try a few times and the mobile number seems to work in those cases.

Thanks for the advice of signing up with a mobile number, then switching to my home number by adding it and scrubbing original mobile number
... err if you see what I mean
Anyway, thanks It worked a treat...

Pleased to hear that 1connect :D

I would like to credit the original poster of this tip since I have used it in the Guide to Home Phones thread but I can't find who originally posted it :o

Onzey and sonia1963 were the two users who were having problems with it and started a very funny daily diary of their attempts to sign up with 1899 but Onzey can't remember who it was either. It was round about 9 September last year and despite a search through the archives it seems to be one of the threads that are missing.

So if the OP would like to stand up and accept the credit, please let me know:T
  • Following my recommendation, a friend registered their Preston home phone number yesterday.
  • I've tried signing up to Call1899 with my landline to no avail, but the mobile trick seems to have worked a treat! A thanks has been left to mr matrix :)
