Our local Scout group is trying to raise sufficient funds to replace our existing decrepit Scout Hut. We need approximately £200,000. Does anyone have any ideas about charitable trusts/foundations which give grants for this sort of thing?

We are of course doing fundraising activities, but we are also going to need several sizeable grants in order to reach our target any time in the foreseeable future. We are based in Hertfordshire, so trusts/foundations who target other areas of the country are no use. We cannot plead that our area is particularly deprived, so this seems to rule out many donors who are only interested in helping disadvantaged or troubled youth.

Edit: I don't imagine I will get a grant of £200,000. I'm hoping for lots of grants of anything from £2k to £50k.

When I ran a guide unit I had several grants from this trust, nowhere near the money you are looking for but worth a try and they will often match what u have managed to fundraise.
Even if you dont get anything for the building costs remember them when u are furnishing etc.
I had several grants of 1-3 thousand.
They only give to guide and scout groups any area.
I also had money from the local authority who were giving to youth groups.

Contact your local voluntary services council (google volunteer plus hertfordshire) and see what advice they can give, they may well have a fundraising database you can tap into to identify suitable grant making bodies.

Also see if there's anything useful in our sticky on fundraising.

Google 'scout hut grants' and variations. You will see the Scout Assoc has advice and there will be links to other Scout groups who have raised money. This will give you an idea about who funded them and how they raised funds.
