HELP! Can I get a file back if I've mistakenly overwritten it with a blank file?

Is it possible to recover the old file at all?

Short and sweet prob but big consequences coz it's some of my college work

More information needed - what kind of file (Word document for instance), saved on what (USB stick, computer disc)? Did the blank file have the same file name as your document?

Sorry not enough info

It was a word document.
It was to the computer disc.
I gave the blank file the same name as the original file and when it asked whether to replace the old file I replied yes :o:o

If you right click the unopened document, click properties then previous versions, are there any?

If that doesn't work, you are in a world of pain. If you are very lucky, a search for .tmp files with the same creation date as your file may (it is a very long shot) find a file with some of the content from your lost file. these files are usually deleted when you close Word.
