HELP! Can I get a file back if I've mistakenly overwritten it with a blank file?

First up don't save anything else while you wait for help!
More information needed - what kind of file (Word document for instance), saved on what (USB stick, computer disc)? Did the blank file have the same file name as your document?0 -

It was a word document.
It was to the computer disc.
I gave the blank file the same name as the original file and when it asked whether to replace the old file I replied yes

If you right click the unopened document, click properties then previous versions, are there any?0

If that doesn't work, you are in a world of pain. If you are very lucky, a search for .tmp files with the same creation date as your file may (it is a very long shot) find a file with some of the content from your lost file. these files are usually deleted when you close Word.0
