I personally just have a quick look left and right at lights anyway, just in case! It doesn't need to be a ambulance, it could be an undercover cop car or anything. Using common sense when your driving doesn't hurt anybody, and personally if you can't see a massive van in greens, yellows and garish colours because you insist on looking straight ahead, go to specsavers! :D

The colour and flashing lights, wouldn't really mean much to a blind person crossing the road.

Indeed liam8282, but actually, its really not a regular occurance or news story that someone gets killed by an ambulance. In many cases (feel free to correct me!) someone is entirely blind has a dog or helper which are able to help them cross the road 1. safely and 2. the animal is trained to look?

I may be totally wrong, but really, when was the last time you heard of an ambulance running over a blind man?

the ambulance and police usually cover up the story when people get run over by quickly settling out of court

Not often, because like I said, they usually have their siren on when going through traffic lights. :p

Prove it? I would be very careful about the accusations you make with very little or no facts!
  • This is what I was taught when going through PCV test back in 98.
POLICE are the only drivers who can automatically go through a red light on blues n twos.
Fire/Ambuances have priority to do so on the way to the emmergency, but should proceed with caution at all times through any major junction etc. After all they are more than likely going to save somebodies life. Could be your family. You should always be aware of any blue lights approaching from your rear. But you only have to pull over for POLICE. The other 2 - just try to slow down and pull more to left if you can do so safely, other wise keep your speed up so that they can travel as fast as it is safely possible behind you until you can pull out of their way. Stopping is not always the right way to do it. And with oncoming traffic, can in fact cause more problems for them so keep going for a bit until there is enough time for them to safely overtake is a better way. And the no sirens thing is not new it tends to be that way - if you are fiddling with your phones and sat navs etc - you should still be checking mirrors. My driving instructor (x police driver) used to quiz me on what was behind me all the time and if I did not know, would tut at me. So I got into the habit very early on. Sirens normally only needed at junctions to warn any vehicles that they need to take the priority to get on their way. All drivers of all em vehicles can be prosecuted for any accident caused by them going through a red light in a dangerous manor, but only POLICE have automatic right of way at all times. After all how would you feel if you held them up and they were on their way to save your family from some disaster and they arrived too late as you would not let them past. Oh and while we are on this subject, stop double parking on narrow streets - this too can hold up fire engine and ambulances and thus prevent someone from needlessly dying. Do not park cars opp junctions, causes larger vehicles major problems in their turning and can present a danger to pedestrians if the large vehicle has to turn short to exit as they end up on paving. Blind bends - no parking. before top of hills - no parking. Think. You may just be the cause of somebody being killed and all because you did not park correctly and were too lazy to walk a few more steps!
  • I can only have praise for ambulance drivers. Without them early this year I would not have been prepared and treated effectively

As a note to others, your day to need one is yetr to come.

I was almost T-boned by an ambulance the other day. He went through a red light at great speed and did not have his siren on. Due to the junction layout I could not see him until the last second. Thankfully I managed to stop just in time.

I'm sure they do a great job on the whole, but that one in particular should have either had his siren on, or should have been going a lot slower.

Look at it this way, if you are going to be t-boned it's better to be hit by an ambulance. Instant medical attention.
