I'm very hesitant about buying and selling on Facebook. I only use Facebook to keep in contact with a dozen or so people overseas, have no personal information on the account, have no apps or memmbership of any groups and have every setting set to the most private setting available ... yet still my account has been hacked by a source in Japan.
I received an email from Facebook, notifying me of the unusual access point and asking me to confirm it was me or to advice of a hacking incident and reset the password. Having done the latter, all is seemingly well, but all the adverts showing are for Japanese products.
After this event, the last thing on my mind is making and taking payments via Facebook, since successfully hacking into my facebook account would be an entry point to my credit card or access to my bank account.
[Presumably you have to go through another security level to access payments, but if a Facebook account can be broken into, it's clearly not beyond the realms of possibility].
For now, I'll stick to eBay."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

I have no knowledge of any site that takes payment via paypal so I cannot answer your query. Everything I refer to in my posts are face to face sales using cash, just like a small ad .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sorry, my mistake - I misinterpreted that Facebook was now offering some kind of eBay-esque buying and selling on-line, between Facebook members.I have no knowledge of any site that takes payment via paypal so I cannot answer your query. If it's just promoting local off-line sales, I guess it has no risk attached to it beyond any other local cash sale."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

Porto, definitely no payments are made via FB for these selling pages mentioned here. It is just a platform for showing/telling people what you have for sale, you then arrange (normally) cash on collection.

Some people do offer paypal payments, so you'd need to give your email address.
I don't know if FB is any less secure than ebay. My ebay account was hacked several years ago.
One of my email addresses was hacked last year.0 -

Hi
I have a selling page where i sell my hand knit items, i offer postage if people want it and they can then pay through paypal, not had a problem YET , but doesn't mean i wont have.
I sell item valued a around the £5 to £40 mark and i always post recorded so that i can make a claim. Don't post until paypal payment is cleared .
Most is made to order and small deposit paid when item ordered then rest when ready for delivery. Selling better than on my etsy and folksy page to be honest.
But majority of sales still cash on collection.0 -
I think a lot depends on the area you live. My local sale pages are full of over priced phones, expensive video games and expensive PS3's. Someone was asking £250 for an iPhone 3GS the other day. They have no idea of values.
I did once try and advertise my treadmill on one of them. it was a £400 all singing all dancing machine which I wanted a very reasonable £100 for (eBay prices were £120 ish). I had one comment of "Will you take £30".

There are a few phones for sale on the sites I've found so far, mainly from businesses- but most of the stuff is the sort of stuff you'd find at a car boot or NCT nearly new sale. I've put up a whole load of dresses and tops I've barely worn for £1 a piece as that is more than I would expect to get from a local car boot.
I have had my first 'can you deliver please' request, on a £2 item, but I've politely declined as I just want it gone really and I'm not driving around the Borough using petrol to deliver things when I could just donate it straight to a charity shop.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There are various apps, etc that you can set up your own selling page as an extra Facebook page, much the same as having your own website, except it is linked in with Facebook. I also have a tab on my Facebook business page that is all my Ebay listings. This is all fairly easy to do and shouldn't cost anything more than a few minutes (some companies have been charging for it).
This is all on a separate business/group page that does not link back to your personal page, if you don't want it to..0
