And I'm not surprised! That's twice you've mentioned the same place today.
C'mon, play nicely.0 -
See my post about the results i got with 4 different types of compost and my pea plants.

I found the ASDA one to be OK, I also bought some Sainsbury's peat free and it looked awful like black straw, Felt horrible to work with and stuff into toilet roll tubes.
BUT.. So far the pea's grown in that seem to be doing the best, Only slightly beating the ASDA one slightly.
Normally i would buy the large 125L? bags from B&Q, But didnt get a chance this year and bought the ASDA one because it was handy.
Then the other week i needed some plants to grow quickly so i thought peas. And then thought why not try a test to see if any compost actually proves to be better.
Would i buy the peat free one again?? Not sure on that. Its horrible but gets the right results.
Wonder how it will cope with smaller seeds?
Beetroot test coming soon.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Wilkos have their grow bags @£1.44 - BOGOF. At this price, you can afford to buy some tomato liquid feed.:j
I have ordered % to be delivered free to my nearest store - after realising they were on BOGOF, unable to amend order:mad:, I oredered another 6.:D0 -
I needed to buy a few bags, so i opened a few bags of the verve multipurpose compost and found it to be the best compost i've ever used. It was light, finely sieved and holds just enough moisture. I was very surprised as i've read loads of comments about the quality this year - maybe they have seen/heard this negative response and sorted out the supplier. I would suggest that you part open a bag before you purchase to make sure your happy with it. Of course i'm not sure on the nutritional content, but i've added swellgel and will supplement with potash and tom feed as needed.... only time will tell whether my big batch of Detroit 6 Beetroot will enjoy the compost.0

Speaking from the otherside, whilst I can understand wanting to see the compost I would object to finding lots of part opened bags which often have to be sold cheaper.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Well it was one of the B&Q staff that said to open and check it (I'd originally gone down for some miracle-grow veg compost but they didnt have any, so i said i'd heard bad things about the Verve stuff) all they do is tape the bag up to re seal it and put it back on the pile (or in my case put it in the trolley). No harm done and they got a sale out of me. Win Win.0

I bought 3 60litre bags of Bulrush Professional for £10 a store called Biology in Swansea not sure if they have stores elsewhere. Great results so far, I am very pleased, but i am easily pleased anyway. The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

For anyone who is still looking for a decent multipurpose compost, I was told that Humax has been re-reforumulated and so I took the word of the nurseryman who sold it to me and bought a sack. He is right: this year's batch is a lot better than the year after Scotts took the firm over and reforumulatesd a great product for the worse.
Sadly, they still don't seem to have put sand back in it but you can always add that if you want to. Either way, it is a far, far cry from some of the lumpy rubbish being passed-off as 'potting compost' these days!0 -
I tried ASDA's compost for the first time this year, and am quite impressed so far. Only £10 for 3x 70L, too.
Lidl's compost is bl**dy awful...0
