Which credit card are people using the most at the moment when travelling overseas I will be over in the US for a month and do not want to be hit with the conversion charges, Halifax seems the best one but would like to hear if people have had a bad time with it or not

Personally I use Santander Zero which I think is no longer available. Also consider Post Office, Nationwide Select (if you qualify), Sainsburys Gold (monthly fee). You mention Halifax. I think it is only the Halifax Clarity that offers loading-free transactions.
Zero, Clarity and Gold also let you withdraw cash without a fee (but except for Gold charge interest from the date of transaction).
That's the story for CCs. There are some debit cards too, I believe. (Metrobank - and perhaps their CC too?) But I don't like using debit cards.
Don't expect any card to work all the time. Have backups, even if they are loaded.0 -
I never withdraw cash on a CC it just to be used as a normal CC but without those silly 2.75% conversion rates I get if I use my normal one I use whilst based in the UK.0
