Bad Credit Bank Accounts?

Hi guys, Im hoping for some advice re: bank accounts.
I have poor credit history which I have recently began to improve and build again. I have 2 defaults on my file which are due to be removed at the end of the year.
I have a current acc with overdraft with the bank of Ireland.
My partner and I recently moved in together and due to my credit history, we dont want a joint acc but we need to open an acc in my name to that we can both pay an amount into each month and to pay our bills from.
I dont want to go to my local banks in case they reject me and then it leaves a further black mark on my credit file.
So any advice on what account is best for paying direct debits from and that wont leave any further black marks on my credit file?

Why not just get your partner to open an account for this purpose and then set up a standing order from your bank of Ireland current account to his to pay the bills.
Later when your defaults drop off, you both could then convert it into a joint account.0 -
We did consider that, but all the bills are already in my name. He is moving into my home and it is me that pay the bills so we thought it would be easier to have the account still in my name rather than change the names on my gas/electric etc.0

Would you need to change the names on the bills, have you checked?
I'm sure so long as the bills are paid it wont matter which account is used to pay them. Check though.0 -
Apply online after all your only applying for a bank account so can't see why any bank would reject unless you've been bankrupt.0

No I have never been bankrupt.
I am going to go into Barclays and inquire about their basic bank acc.0 -
You'll get accepted for a basic bank account, thought you wanted a standard current account which you will have difficulties opening with a default on your credit file, sorry.0

No apology needed! I just need a basic acc that I can use direct debits and standing orders with. I dont need an overdraft facility or any other options though I would still like to use online banking.0 -
You don't need to change the name on your bills, your partner can pay them by DD easily enough. They'll just need a signed DD form with his name, account number, sort code and bank address on.0

Thanks I wasnt aware of this. I assumed that I would have to change the bills into his name.0
