Driving around a village close to myself this morning and saw a sign saying "Tomato Plants - Free - Take One!!"
there were about 20-30 plants in 3 boxes..
Suddenly thought it might be a good thing to do in my area.. I have loads of plants I could grow which I don't due to a lack of space (until I get greenhouse built!!).
Next day off I plan to start off loads of the excess I have and do the same thing as it may encourage others to start growing something if they were too worried about costs and failing...
How do you think this would go in your area?? Just a thought...

God helps make my veggie patch grow. He provides everything I need.. It only fails if I do NOT do as He has told me!!
Imagine if Christianity spread like swine flu... how much better the world would be!! God Bless!

As someone who does farm gate sales, Id prefer it if the idea didn't take off!
Well, you asked.....:rotfl:0 -
In my previous house I used to put out windfall apples, loose, in a wheelbarrow, with sign, "free help yourself"
What I had not figured on was some greedy bu66ers taking the lot and leaving none for others. I hope you have more responsible folk near youNumerus non sum0 -
I've heard of something simliar to this where they also leave a 'donation' bucket at the side of the stall/ wheelbarrow.
Personally I love the concept, however it grieves me that what happened to Farway would probably happen on a regular basis...where I live they'd take the donation bucket too!
Perhaps it really depends on where you live?Stopped smoking 20th October 2012
This year I will have something that resembles a garden and not a building site!0 -

Probably.
Where I am, it's usual to sell things at the gate and use an honesty box. We keep an eye on it, and there's rarely a tenner in it at any one time. There has to be a bit of change.
Sometimes, things go and aren't paid for, but more often than not, the money turns up later on. Other offerings also appear, like the jar of Apple & Mint Jelly which materialised a few weeks ago.
Was it an exchange? Who knows! :rotfl:0 -
What about donating the excess to your local charity shop? Plant sell really well in our local shop and I also gave them a load of old plant pots which they gratefullly accepted - not sure if they sell them or have people who grow on plants for them to sell.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
I'm going to give my spare seedlings to the school to sell at their school fete... :-)
Never knew charity shops sold plants!I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)
