Pay as you go car insurance

Options
I have been struggling to find cheap car insurance and the only option I found was using a pay as you go insurance for my car, has anyone else use PAYG car insurance or specifically this company "ecarinsurance"

--
I was getting quotes of inexcess of £2000 a year and most expensive was £14000, despite me being 40 year old male, passed test in 1989. I did not have any NCB but despite that my age and driving length should have been taken into account.
I did quotes for several different cars from a basic 51 plate fiesta to a 53 plate corsa but all prices same, so decided to buy a 52 plate MG ZR, maybe higher spec but was same price quote wise to the corsa and fiesta.

Check forums and review sites about Ecarinsurance before you think about using them. Appears customer service in non existent and people have had problems with their claims. Some with Insurance cancelled without their knowledge and they have ended up having their cars impounded by the Police, as shown as not insured.

Not sure I would use them. But I suppose they must have some happy customers.

Your best bet is to contact a local broker, to see what they can offer.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Do you have any points on your license or reason for the quotes being so high?

totally clean licence and even tried various different style of description for the job i did but made little difference. Prob cause i have zero ncd but still despite that the quotes seem excessivly high in par with a 17 year old new driver.

They justified the huge insurance increase on 17 year olds, and most people not affected thought, "good, it wasn't me" and supported the increase. It stands to reason the insurers will move onto the next groups that are "high risk". (Obviously statistics are confidentital, but the "trust me, it must be true" bridgade will be here to back them up)

Some Insurers offer discounts if you add other drivers as named drivers eg parents or especially a partner or spouse.

If you have a lowish value car and comprehensive cover, it can be worth increasing your voluntary excess. Remember that this will apply in addition to any "Policy" or "Compulsory" excess and some Insurers add it to any "Fire and Theft" Excess. With excesses, you only normally pay these if you're claiming for your own damage.

On that size premium, I would not be surprised if it reduced massively once you have got a years no claims bonus under your belt.

    Have you tried local brokers

You will never get a decent quote for insurance on the mg zr, it has plummeted in value and now well in reach of young hooligans. As a result plenty have been involved in crashes and pushed everyone elses premiums up.

I'm 29 and get decent insurance prices, but for young drivers? Be prepared to pay through the nose!

    lol - i actually did!

in fairness my insurance would be twice the price it is now if the car was standard, i've got a specialist modified policy as the car has extensive performance modifications.

I've always paid my entire premium up front, but i've noticed there is an increasing difference on the pay-monthly policies as of late.

i only pay £400 p/a with everything declared, 14k annual milage and an excess of £150.
