Cat wormed, now runny bottom. Coincidence?

Title says it all really. 1st time using a spot on wormer treatment (began with P, packaging gone now) on saturday and she now has a very smelly, runny bottom. Coincidence, or side effect?

Anyone had the same thing?......In their cats that's is.......:rotfl:

I use Drontal tablets as the spot on treatments are too expensive when you have 5 cats to regularly worm :o I've never experienced anything like that with the Drontal.

Have you ruled out other things? i.e. I take it you haven't changed puss' diet? Or could they have eaten something that doesn't agree with them?

I have experienced this. Soft rather than runny. Not always but occasionally with some adult cats and some kittens too. Usually gone within 24 hours.

I don't use a spot on but Drontal or Milbemax.

Worming and flea products can often cause minor adverse reactions like an upset tummy. Nothing to worry about unless it becomes severe (possibility of dehydration) or continues excessively (may have caused something like gastritis) but if the cat has been moderately poorly or distressed you might want to consider changing brands of wormers next time.

To update, I took her to the vets on wednesday as there was no improvement and her third eyelids were up, so a sure sign something was wrong. (I nearly didn't go as she was playing and running about, so def. not ill.)

Vet said it was likely that the 'profender' has caused the upset, she wasn't dehydrated, but her temperature was on the high side of normal. As puds had been starved for nearly a day, she prescribed some paste to replace the good stuff in her tummy and said to feed her small amounts every few hours. Otherwise no other symptoms.

Three days on and there is no improvement, poos are still very runny and smelly, but she is constantly hungry, and her usual self. No dehydration, coat is lovely and shiny, but her third eyelids are still a bit up.

I might wait until I finish the tube of paste before I decide to take her back, but something isn't right and I can't keep her on 1/2 rations much longer. Any suggestions anyone?

24 hour starvation diet .. keep her in the house , monitor her faeces then slowly re-introduce food ...boiled chicken in very small amounts.
Make sure she has plenty of water to drink in the meantime.
My cats third eye lids appear at times but she is really healthy , I do check to see if anything is wrong.
Don't use the wormer again , find another one.
