I find a roller quicker but just have to mind the splashes.... and make sure you use the correct type of roller for whichever paint you are using....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

i found paint pads to 'smear' the paint on and left marks! - roller every time!0

Roller for me too, really fast, though I always end up slightly freckled whenever I do a ceiling!0

Roller, pads tend to leave brush (pad) marks. If you want the smooth finish like a pad get a short pile roller.0

roller every time, are you doing the ceiling ? if you are do it first and paint down the wall 2 or 3 inches, it makes it a little easier to first coat the walls,
also if your redoing your woodwork do that after the ceiling and again paint the undercoat on the wall, this time try to keep it to a minimum but you DONT need to cut in the undercoat, only the topcoat,
maybe this will be easier
1, paint ceiling bring the paint down 2/3 inches
2, good rub down of all woodwork fill if needed,
3, repaint ceiling "if necessary"
assuming the paint is now dry
4, 1st coat the walls
assuming filler is dry
5, rub down and undercoat woodwork "bringing undercoat 1 cm onto walls" approx
6, second coat the walls "trying not to hit the woodwork to much lol"
7 with very fine sand paper give the woodwork a gentle rub "not to much to take it back to wood" and the its the topcoat
then walk away pat yourself on the back cos that's exactly what a pro does
GOOD LUCK and im here if you need any more advice or if im not understandable,0 -
THANKS TO ALL - will stick to roller0

I must be the only one to prefer a pad. When i did my own decorating, I used a roller for ceilings but always preferred a pad for walls. The ones I had were very fine - cashmere or mohair- and left a seamless finish and doing edges was a doddle.
Last year was the first time I got a professional in - due to my arthritic knees. He was fine but used a roller everywhere and the walls have a kind of textured look- hard to explain -like a linen finish. It's not bad or anything just not as smooth as I'd like.if i had known then what i know now0 -
paint pad for me too, definitely less messy. Although i find a roller much better for ceilings.
Isn't this site great, you can ask anything and get lots of different opinions, especially with a OH like mine who doesn't care about things like this!now mum of 4!!!0 -
Pad - every time .... and particularly for the ceilings.
I use a dessert spoon to simply spread the paint straight from the tin, across the pad. So there's no waste and only the pad / spoon to wash.
Rollers ..... are for dalmatians;)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I'm a pad girl too - less messy, less waste and quicker!:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A
