Insuring a foreign bought gadget in the uk

I am from the UK but have been living in Australia for the last 6 months. I have bought a laptop since being here and am now looking to get insurance on it before coming home to the UK. I have looked on protect your bubble and gadget uk websites at insuring it, but noticed a clause in the T&C's that says the gadget has to have a receipt from a UK VAT registered company. Does anyone know of a way I can get insurance on my laptop that is permanently valid in the UK as that is where I am going to be living again soon?

just stick it on your normal household policy?
  • I don't have house insurance yet, as I don't have a home in the UK yet. I'm travelling to a few countries before getting back to England, so need insurance that will cover me for at least the travelling.

Can you not arrange insurance in Australia before leaving?

I have several items bought overseas that are insured as specified items on my house contents insurance. It is not an issue with ordinary contents insurance.

Can you not cover it on travel insurance? I think what you are asking for is going to ring alarm bells with an insurance company, so stick to ordinary travel or house contents insurance.

With travel insurance there is often a quite low article limit (they often list good overall cost limits only to have a lousy "per article" limit). Also it will have terms and conditions as to where you keep the items when they are not in use.
