500 Euro Notes

Hi

I closed a Euro Account in Bulgaria and received the balance in cash which included a 500 Euro note.

I have tried to change this note into pounds but the bank said that they were not allowed to accept 500 Euro notes.

Help!! Any suggestions?

You can change this at a bureau de change, although they usually take a small percentage of the note. I have also changed them at M&S with no problems, but the exchange rate is usually better at a Bureau de Change (although do your homework first).

Send them to ace-fx, not only do they accept 500 euro notes but also give you a far, far better exchange rate than the likes of Post office, M&S etc. Money is paid into your bank account the same day they receive the foreign currency.

More likely the cashier couldn't be bothered to get his/her manager to authorise taking the note.

Like £50 notes 500€ notes are often forgeries so they have to be looked at properly by more than one person before they are accepted.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Course they can. Lloyds TSB as of a few weeks ago, no longer accept €500 notes.

It may have something to do with this (money laundering):

Go to your local Cheque centre or Moneyshop, awful pay day loan places but the best I find for exchange rates on the high street.

There is no requirement for a bank to exchange any foreign currency.

To offer such a service is a purely commercial decision.

Natwest no longer accept EUR500 notes either. Money launderers favourites as well as being the most forged note.

The Least forged note is the 500 euro note, nobody in spain will change one.....the banks will, but will use a detector machine to test every one. The twenty and fifty are much more commonly forged as they are much easier to spend.
