Still trying to get my head around twitter and how it works
Say if I want a lot of people to pick up my twitter post, how do I compare the effectiveness of using different terms for linking?
For example would I use #airpollution, #airquality, or #emissions?
Presumably people interested in these terms would somehow pick them up if they use similar terms in their posts?

The easiest way to know is to know what is trending. Hashtags are useful for search keywords and categorising.
So if you tweet including #emissions then your tweet will be included in an emissions search. Thus if you were tweeting about emissions in cars then use that one.
If you're tweeting about how smoggy it is then #airpollution would prolly suffice. But here the thing, You only get searched on what is popular trend wise. So if 1 person searches emissions, but 99 searches airpollution, then obviously you only get show in one or the other.
What is not really acceptable is to have more than 2/3 hashtags per tweet. That's more the unwritten rules etc. Prolly if you're looking for most coverage on a particular topic, research the trending tags first.
You almost have to be intelligent with keywords. You can't consider the search to be like Google:"What was that song that Madonna wrote ten years ago?". You'd need to know the song to hashtag it.
Confusing. Never really got on with Twitter, prefer Facebook where i can write epic novels of my days events
On the other hand, if you just want to tweet about the current hot themes, you can find many places that list these for you. Just google "Trending Topics"0 -
I think google provides a hit count somewhere, thats really what I need for Twitter0
