FTB with new build

So on Friday reserved my new-build home and have until the end of July to ensure I have everything in place: both money and insurances. The property is coming with all white goods, carpet, curtains and garden, so there is little else i need to do to make the place liveable, but as a First Time Buyer is there anything i need to pay attention to that i might have missed? My parents have only bought one property in the past and that was 20yrs ago, so aren't completely savvy with modern things.

The mortgage and legal things are organised so that only leaves utilities and insurances. I've read the guides on both and come up with content and building ins for ~£150 and utilities i'll have to get more details of the boiler etc to ensure i get the best deals.

When i first spoke to the mortgage broker they mentioned that redundancy ins and life ins were conditions of the mortgage, but without further details i dont know if they have set min values. Any guide on this would be great.

As said, i have basically two months to sort everything out, but living in hotels 5 days a week somewhat limits my ability to spend hours on the internet and phone to loads of companies.

    Snagging list is imperative on a new build. There will be defects that you'll want sorting before you complete so go round with a fine toothcomb, note all defects down and tell builder you want them all fixed. It took me 2 years after I bought a new build to get all mine sorted. All because I completed without looking round properly and not producing a snagging list. I learnt the hard way! Mine are all sorted now with a nbrand new kitchen, new this, new that because of scratches, dents, design errors etc. don't complete until you're happy as if I had done this before completion I would not have had a massive struggle for 2 years.

    Thanks, i've gone and found a few "'snagging lists' on the internet so am in the process of reading them, merging and customising for my house so i can go room by room to check everything.

    Just to serve as a warning to others:
    After reading all the available information, getting so called "fixed price" quotes from the solicitors and bank, II have now bought my first house. I say "so called" because apparently they are still able to change their prices at will and charge £100 each for printing out the contract. It doesn't help that the bank then also state the first payment is due 4 days after the contract is signed, so for my first month in my new home my finances will be stretched.

    My situation is slightly different to others in the sense I never planned to get a mortgage at this stage in my life so finances have been stretched to pay for it. But I've learnt and will warn everyone I talk to to make sure they have plenty of time and money set aside for moving. I've managed to go from nothing to getting the keys in just two months, but I know this is the exception rather than the norm.
