Quick Advice Needed

Options
Hi All

I have just been alerted through Equifax that I have had a derogatory mark placed on my credit report.

I have an Ammex with a 4k limit, never paid late until last week when I was stuck at sea (true story). I called Ammex when I got into port and paid immediately. I believed this was the end of story.

Yesterday I got the notification through from Equifax, that Ammex have said I'm a month in arrears. Simply mot true. I called Ammex yesterday, apparently there is nothing they can do their end. They immediately refunded any charges. They suggest taking it up with Equifax.

Good people of this forum:

Is this true? Is there nothing to be done to have this removed from my unblemished record?!

Any advice from you would be greatly appreciated!

Equifax will only report information provided by Amex.
  • So is it possible to get Ammex to remove the derogatory mark?
    Thanks for replying.

Yes Amex can simply ask Equitax to remove it....or you can also raise the problem with Equifax as well who will get in touch with Amex.

Despite what you think, you did actually pay late, late enough for Amex to alert Equifax. One day or thirty days is still a late payment. It may not have been your fault that you were late, but the payment was still late. Why not set up a DD to hit your amex card a week before the payment due date so this doesn't happen again. Also, if there are any issues you still have time to rectify.

If Amex allow a DD to be set up to pay the minimum each month then it is the OP's fault that they have a late payment marker.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

At the end of the day Amex is in its full right to report the late payment whatever the reason....at sea or not it is your full responsibility to ensure that payment reach them on time. I would strongly suggest that you set up a direct debit. Having a late payment mark on a report will have almost no impact if the rest of it is in good order.

It was 100% the OP's fault wasn't it?...there being only two parties to the contract, OP and Amex.

The DD date is determined by the originator, ie Amex, and will be scheduled to hit the account on the payment due date itself, or very shortly afterwards (without penalty to the OP) due to weekends/Bank Holidays.

Unless you meant to say standing order, rather than DD?

AsI have said in my other posts on similar subjects recently, they just shift the blameetween themselves and the people inthe call centres dont have a clue. You need to get through higher up, to something that may be called "lending control" department or similar When they say there is nothing they can do they are lying. Whether they want to is another question, that depends on your personal circustances and what has happened. You may have mitigating circumstances but The plain facts are unfortunaltely that you were late paying. Its not impossible to get it removed but dont count on it. Set up a DD ifyou havnt got one so it doesnt happen again. Good luck
  • Does anyone have any knowledge of getting these late payments removed? Is it possible? In hindsight, is it would be prudent to set up a DD.

The actual meaning of a '1' on your credit report is that "payments are up to one month in arrears".
