External render - 3 bedroom semi detached

Hello all,

We've had an offer from a local builder who did some excellent work on our neighbours house to do the following on our property:

• Remove current old pebble dashing, clean and smoothen walls, apply new layer of rendering (3 layers) and finish off with painting house white.
• Repair cracked walls with mesh etc.
• Remove old supporting pillar at front of house (wooden pillar has decayed through the years) and replace with steel pole (which will be covered and enlarged with mesh etc.)
• Repaint gutter pipes

Given all this and that the property is in the London area, he has given us a final quote of £5,700 - covering everyting from a-z; all labour and material costs (scaffolding etc.). This is after some extensive bargaining when he originally quoted £6,200!

A good deal? :money:

We've had another quote of £4'900 but the builder seemed a little shady and didn't have much to say with regards to how the work would be done (forward planning).

The quote posted in the beginning was from an experienced builder with a proven track record.

Just wanted to ask the forum if we were being overcharged by a 'seasoned veteran' of the business?

I am surprized they are offering a 3 coat system than paint, there are some much better 2 coat silicone systems out there, thats are through coloured. never need to be painted, breathable and waterproof, faster to appky and about the same price????
