    Decluttered a lot yesterday!

A bath, loo washbasin and shower cubicle.;)

We decided to repair the work previous owner had done and in the process make the bathroom easier to use and streamlined.

New loo and basin will be wall mounted and off the floor and space bath took up will make a large low level walk in shower with a seat built in and instead of glass screen will have glass blocks as a wall.

It should be sturdier, safer and easy to use and also to clean. Funnily enough we managed to get a good deal on glass blocks as a customer had ordered some and not picked them up.The glass wall even with labour should cost a bit less than the shower screen I liked originally. Realised I have a lot of toiletries so decided to use them up as they are doing no good stuck in wicker tray (I am a sucker for containers too!)

I had a go at the cupboard beside the bathroom sink while I was waiting for the shower to run hot this morning. Top shelf is loo rolls so that's okay but under it is this basket of bath bombs, sample sizes of this and that, about twenty body puffs that came in the dratted hatboxes....

So. I put a couple of used body puffs in the bathroom cleaning box, kept two of the nicest unused ones and binned the rest. I emptied all the little sample sizes of weird shampoo and weirder body wash that we'll never use into the big bottle of Value bubble bath that I use to wash fleece wool and woolen sweaters, it will do fine for that. I threw out several samples of men's toiletries, I can't see either OH or DS ever using mens facial serum tbh. Which leave me with all the slightly scruffy bath bombs. What can you do with these? We hardly ever have baths, we're shower people. Can you use them to clean drains or something like that?

Oh, and as an extra I poured the last half inch out of one of my collection of Parazone bottles into the loo while I had a shower and gave it a swish round with the brush when I got out. (Multi-tasking, you know...) So that was a job done AND another empty bottle of cleaning stuff out too. :)

Why not fill a sink with hit water, drop a "bomb" in there and use it for cleaning the sink?

A gift of a necklace arrived this morning (very nice it is too!) and I promptly binned the box it arrived in :D, now just need to pluck up the courage to bin the ring boxes from my engagement and wedding rings!

OMG! The annual gas check up guy turned up This morn. Que me looking very uneasy at the doorway! Then he says if it's not convenient he can come back in an hr! YES! Please! So I rush to lift clothes piled up in the kitchen to create a walkway and attempt to get the mountain of dishes in front of the boiler done.............he returned in about half an hr stating no one else was in. So I had to let him in, oh, the shame! :o. I then preceded to take a pile of towels and undies and socks and start folding them so it looked like the mess was in the kitchen for a reason!

He is returning in 1-2 weeks with a part that is needed........I have a feeling the kitchen may be in much the same state! So anyways, no decluttering as such, but the majority of the laundry folding is now done! And half the dishes, the other half piled onto another side of the bunker

Your challenge for the next two weeks (should you choose to accept it) is to get the kitchen cleared!

You have cheered me up about the state of our kitchen as every time I do anything it makes a mess and it is nice to know I am not alone.

Washing needs to be folded and put away, more washing can't be done because water is turned off, dishwasher is loaded but not yet full and need to wait till after lunch to switch it on if water is back on.
No point making lunch till DH gets back and we and dd can eat together.

I am consoling myself with the fact that every time something is tidied or improved it temporarily makes more mess but is worth it in the end. My storecupboard has been gutted and tidied and I can find stuff now and I have cleared a few kitchen cabinets as well. Some books have gone to charity shop and others put in bookcase.

Hotel shampoos, samples and so on....what a pain they turn out to be. DH used to bring them back for me and a collection built up, then I started travelling for work too and I use the good ones but sometimes bring them back myself. I try only to bring back nice ones but sometimes the "what if's" ambush me!
One solution is the hotels I like to stay in in Scandinavia now offer shower gel in big dispensers on the wall, its nice quality so I don't need to take my own and I can't take it home.
Have a draw full of these pesky bottles plus several airline comfort kits (business class ones from DH's travels) some are so nice but the best use I have found for the bags was a AirNewZealand one which nicely fits my sat nav and all its bits.
Need to gird myself to throw a lot of these out but needto do it well out of reach of the dog who is very likely to steal them and then be found running around the garden with his booty.

  • Dipping in despite the best efforts of little bear to keep me entertained.

Re the boxes - I am far too cheap to buy tupperware but I have in the past got some lock n lock boxes - all in use. However I have a weakness for buying things with the 'added value' of a useful container. My mother always used to get a particular type of spread because it came in a particularly sturdy box. Now I have the instinct of not buying a storage box but for buying eg a big box of Jacobs crackers in a plastic tub for the purpose of storage with the crackers as an added bonus.

Storage stuff is on the list, but after the dining room. I must have done about two inches yesterday and I don't expect to get much more done today as I was sick all last night and little bear is very chirpy today. I plan to get rid of about half of the large plastic storage boxes. I just don't want to keep that amount of stuff.

So far it has taken me thirty five minutes to write this.

back to the boxes - some things I swear are sold in great boxes to tempt hoarders or increase perceived value. I once bought a tin of biscuits from Lakeland because I like the box. The box currently holds my collection of gift tags etc. (btw - knowing gift tags are all in one place and it is somewhere to put any strays found means that I am less likely to buy more when I don't need them. Matalan had an amazing offer on blank gold/silver ones one Boxing Day which have done us for years). Now I am becoming a bit more aware and less likely to fall for it - less packaging means less cost, less temptation and less 'stuff'.

Elona - just a bit out then lol Yesterday I managed to split open a bag of bath salts that I had been dithering about de-richarding (they must have a cleaning value, right?) and now the whole bathroom smells like a cheap Christmas present and it really didn't help while I was throwing up. Bathroom is definitely on the list - but after the dining room. Just managing a daily swipe.

sjprmc01 - I am overdue on my washing up and it scares me.

Little bear has just announced that his soft toys are his kids. How the Jeff am I supposed to derichard them now? There are hundred of the things.

It has taken me almost an hour to write this lot. Also, I am looking out for a small container suitable for little bear to take raisins in for his packed lunch. I haven't had much luck finding a purpose one but I may see if I can find eg a vitamin tub etc.

hugs to all, apologies for those I have missed.

I am a sucker for all these things, I haunt Boots for its 75% sale so I can buy all these great containers filled with ho-hum toiletries
I've still got the large wicker shopping basket which was one of their first attempts at using "useful" objects as packaging - and the mock-chemist bottles with cork stoppers that came in it :o

Ooh hope you are feeling better now, Wannabe Sybil!

I got 2 of these for small snacky stuff

As I have 3 kids to provide boxes for. You get 2 lids (the bottom and the top) but can use more than one stacked at once without the need for extra lids they also have little spout bits inside but you can pull those out if unnecessary and the lids stay on securely

They did however only cost me £2 each the other week when morrisons seemed to have a huge load of baby stuff on sale
