I got a pristine Rover 400 diesel from eBay when I needed a cheap car, it's a rock solid engine and drivetrain and the shell is basically a Honda Civic.
In fact, Honda liked the engine and gearbox so much they used it in the Civic and Accord. There are indeed Civics and Accords knocking about with Rover diesel engines within them, and they usually outlast the petrol Honda lumps.
It cost me £zero to fix for a year, and I racked up nearly 30k. Worth a punt for the £300 it'd cost to get one.0 -
